#548 - All About AGL: Amazon Global Logistics
Discover how Amazon Global Logistics could simplify your supply chain, reduce surprise fees, speed up FBA inventory, and change how you ship products globally. Getting inventory from your factory into Amazon FBA can be one of the most complicated parts of running an ecommerce business. Between freight forwarders, customs, placement options, unexpected fees, and changing transit times, sellers have plenty of decisions to make. In this episode, Bradley Sutton sits down with Alex Berry, who leads Amazon Global Logistics (AGL), to break down how the program works and where it fits into an Amazon seller's supply chain. Alex explains how AGL differs from traditional freight forwarding, including Amazon Managed Placement and Seller Managed Placement. Sellers can choose between different approaches for getting inventory distributed across Amazon's five US regions, while AGL also offers air, standard ocean, and fast ocean shipping options. The conversation also tackles Incoterms such as FOB and DDP, Amazon Customs and Trade (ACT), payment options, and one of the biggest headaches in international freight: unexpected fees. Unlike the common "Bill One, Bill Two" model Alex describes in the freight industry, he says AGL provides the price upfront without a second bill filled with additional charges such as detention, demurrage, or driver wait times. But AGL is continuing to expand. Alex shares updates on dangerous goods support, including electronics with batteries and upcoming lithium-ion battery capabilities, as Amazon works toward supporting more than 99% of ASINs by mid-2027. He also discusses faster routes into the eastern US, premium ocean service into Europe, expanding international shipping lanes, contract pricing for qualifying sellers, and plans that could eventually allow sellers to use AGL to ship directly to non-Amazon destinations such as their own warehouses and 3PLs. Whether you're already using a freight forwarder or simply looking for more options, this episode offers a closer look at what Amazon is building on the logistics side of the business. The biggest lesson isn't necessarily that every seller should switch to AGL—it's that sellers should understand their true landed costs, shipping speed, placement strategy, and supply chain options before deciding what works best. The more efficiently you can get inventory where customers need it, the better positioned your business is to stay in stock, protect margins, and keep growing.
