Why the Hell Am I Even Doing This (Let’s Talk Purpose)

Why Your ‘Why’ Matters in Property Management Property management is not for the faint of heart. It’s demanding, chaotic, and often thankless. Between handling resident complaints, meeting ownership expectations, and keeping your team (and yourself) afloat, it’s easy to wonder… why am I even doing this? In this episode, I’m diving into why having a clear purpose—your why—is essential for staying motivated and avoiding burnout in this industry. We’ll talk about: ✅ How your work shapes the lives (and memories) of the people you serve✅ The impact property managers have on communities—far beyond rent payments and maintenance requests✅ How to identify your personal why (and why it’s okay if it changes over time)✅ The difference between a strong, purpose-driven why and a shallow, burnout-fueling why✅ Why defining your why now makes it easier to push through on the hardest days If you’ve ever felt like quitting—or just need a reminder that your work does matter—this episode is for you. 📲 Let’s Connect! Overwhelmed but Optimistic- Learning to Manage Stress Before It Manages You

If you’re watching the video version of this, you can probably tell—I’m in the thick of it. No makeup, no polished setup, just me showing up as is because sometimes, work-life balance doesn’t look pretty. A few weeks ago, I took on a new property, and while I knew it would be a challenge, I can feel the burnout creeping in. I’m being pulled in every direction—by residents, my team, and my own high standards. And while I love a good challenge, I also know how easy it is to fall back into old patterns when stress takes over. So in this episode, I’m sharing:✅ The small but powerful habits I’m using to stay grounded✅ How to create non-negotiables that actually stick (without burning yourself out even more)✅ Why self-care doesn’t have to be expensive or time-consuming✅ The mindset shifts that helped me recover from past burnout—and why I’m doing things differently this time If you’re feeling stretched thin, overwhelmed, or just want to be proactive about avoiding burnout, this one’s for you. And if you’re currently in a good place? Now’s the time to build the habits that will keep you steady before life inevitably gets chaotic again. 📲 Let’s connect! Running the Marathon of Property Management—Without Burning Out

Ever feel like you have to finish everything at work before you can finally take care of yourself? Yeah… same. But here’s the thing—that approach never works because the to-do list? It never actually ends. In this episode, recorded fresh off a conference presentation (yes, with airport noise in the background!), I’m breaking down four key shifts that can help you reclaim your time, energy, and sanity: How to stop multitasking (because it’s secretly making everything harder) The power of setting boundaries—with yourself and others Why prioritizing your health actually makes you better at your job How all of this creates space for the hobbies and goals you’ve put on the back burner I also dive into why your brain resists new habits (even when they’re good for you), why long-distance running taught me more about property management than I ever expected, and why you don’t need to run a marathon to reset your work-life balance. (But if that’s your thing, go for it.) Whether you’re taking on a bigger role, juggling more responsibilities, or just feeling stretched thin, this conversation is for you. Taking on a challenge like this one can be exciting, but it also comes with the risk of slipping back into unhealthy habits. This week, I’m reflecting on the lessons I’ve learned about balance, boundaries, and why growth isn’t a one-time event—it’s a constant process. What's in this episode: Breaking the Burnout CycleBurnout doesn’t happen overnight. It sneaks up on you through a series of small, unchecked habits. I’m sharing how to spot the signs early and make changes before you hit the wall. Why Reflection Is KeyYou can’t grow if you don’t take the time to learn from your past. I’ll share how journaling and seasonal recaps have helped me see where I’ve struggled before—and how I’m planning to do things differently this time. The Power of a Great Night’s SleepIt might sound simple, but sleep is the foundation for everything else. I’m breaking down why sleep impacts everything from your decision-making to your leadership skills, and how I’ve learned to protect my rest, even when life gets busy. Here’s a little teaser: What’s the one habit I used to overlook that has completely transformed how I approach work and life? (Hint: it’s not fancy—it’s foundational.) I’ll share how this one thing became my secret weapon against burnout. Don’t wait until it’s too late to prioritize yourself. Big goals and busy seasons can still feel sustainable if you start with intention and build small habits that support your energy. This episode will help you reflect, reset, and reimagine how you approach your most demanding days. P.S. If you’re gearing up for a big challenge, this is your reminder: you don’t have to have it all figured out. Growth is a process—and that’s exactly what makes it so rewarding.

#60 Little Changes Make the Biggest Difference

Welcome back to another edition of Addicted to Busy! This week’s episode is all about battling burnout and finding those little moments that make a world of difference in a chaotic schedule. I hope it inspires you to make small shifts that help keep your energy up, especially during these busy weeks. What's In This Episode: It can be easy to think that tackling burnout means taking on even more—doing more to “fix” the overload. But sometimes, the most productive thing we can do is just the opposite: take a beat, step back, and breathe. Put Yourself First to Be More Productive LaterIt took me years to realize that productivity isn’t about squeezing in more tasks—it’s about recharging first. When you prioritize your own well-being, you become more effective and make fewer mistakes in the long run. A 15-Minute Walk Can Shift Your MindsetA quick walk can be a game-changer, especially during a busy day. Imagine going through your toughest week but building in a daily 15-minute walk without your phone. This small habit changes how you approach each task, making you feel more centered and less reactive. Small Moments of MindfulnessIf taking a big break seems out of reach, start with smaller moments. Try breathing deeply while your lunch heats up or as you wash your hands. Moments like these give you a chance to reset, even when everything feels nonstop. And here’s a little teaser: want to learn what a “Sunshine Break” is and how it can help during overwhelming days? This episode has got you covered. 😊 Don’t Wait to Recharge It’s budgeting season, which means the work is nonstop and the stress can sneak up fast. Don’t wait until you’re already burned out to start taking care of yourself. Building in small, proactive breaks can help you show up feeling refreshed and ready, no matter how much is on your plate. P.S. I'm also gearing up to launch the Time Blocking for Property Managers course soon! Head over to AnnaJavellana.com to sign up for the newsletter so you’ll be the first to know when it drops. Each week, I’ll be sharing more insights, tips, and real talk about balancing work with wellness, especially for busy professionals like you.

#59 When Your Story Becomes My Story

One thing I love about property management is that every manager has a story that starts out, “You’re never gonna believe what happened at my site…” Storytelling has the power to teach, to change and to connect us. Through storytelling, we have the opportunity to learn from the experiences of others without having to go through those same struggles ourselves.  By listening to stories, we can see how different people have navigated challenges and come out on the other side stronger and wiser.  Much of what we do in property management cannot be taught through a textbook. There is no manual or procedure for how to keep your cool when a resident is besides themselves. And yet, one of the most valuable skills a manager can have is the ability to stay emotionally regulated in stressful situations. Some of our best managers have become the best by simply learning on the fly and sharing their experiences along the way.  One reason why this industry is so tight knit is because we support and teach one another by sharing our stories. Listen in to this week’s episode to hear more.  What’s inside this episode… Discover valuable lessons through storytelling  Expand your thinking by seeing things from a different point of view  Find hope and motivation by hearing about others' triumphs over challenges.  Featured on the show Want to really do this work?
