Last episode, admittedly a little while ago, we explored the Vinyl Renaissance—the surprising, cross-generational return of records in an age dominated by streaming, earbuds, and invisible playlists. Then we explored the fascinating world of vinyl collectability and the unique culture that surrounds it. Vinyl records are not merely functional mediums for playing music; they have become coveted artifacts treasured by collectors and enthusiasts worldwide.For the next several episodes, which I am calling Pat’s top albums of all time, we are not just naming famous albums we will be building a listening shelf: records that reward the ritual of vinyl and pass our 3 M’s test—Musicality. Meaning. And. Motivation. And we are widening the record crate so that alongside landmark rock, soul, and singer-songwriter records, we are making room for pivotal jazz recordings—albums that changed how musicians think. Listen. Improvise. and record. These are my own top records, but hopefully we will agree on a few and maybe you will be inspired to try a few new ones.
