About the show

Welcome to The Shake Up — your weekly dose of real talk with me, Performance Coach Candice Harvey. I’m a former corporate HR professional, and since 2018 I’ve been running my own shake-up business helping teams and individuals thrive. I know Monday to Friday in the corporate world isn’t always cute outfits, hanging with your work bestie, and popping out real quick for a matcha—It’s more like surviving back-to-back meetings that should’ve been quick calls, dodging the people you can’t stand, and pretending you’re still productive by 3pm. Most of the time, we’re stuck in our own heads, running on autopilot, watching the clock and wondering why we can’t just do the damn thing we said we were going to do. That’s where me and my fancy rode mic come in. I’m here to shake you up — with straight-talking strategies, a smidge of humour, and my obsession with human behaviour in the workplace… because I get it, I did it for 15 years. I’m a former corporate HR pro, and since 2018 I’ve been running my own shake-up business, helping teams and individuals go from “things are busy” to “things are GREAT!” So, if you’re ready for a nudge at work, a perspective shift, or maybe even a loving kick up the bum… you’re in the right place.

133. How to Switch Off Your 9-5 (So You Can Switch On Your 5-9)

Send Candice a text! Last week I ran a closing keynote for a conference in Brisbane, swung by IKEA on the way home (as you do), and by the time I hit the Sunshine Coast I was so pooped that the thought of deciding what to cook for dinner nearly made me cry. So I rang my husband and said "meet me at the Thai place in 10 minutes, we're not cooking." Best decision of my week. Two exhausted people, sharing a meal, yawning between sentences - and somehow it still beat sitting at home half-watching TV with my brain still thinking about the emails I'm not ontop of. That night got me thinking about something I hear constantly: I can't switch off, I never feel on top of anything, I'm pooped. And I want to clear something up before you even hit play - switching off from work isn't because you can't stand your job. It's about the fact that work is only one part of your life, and if you can't switch off from it, nothing else gets a proper turn. So, in this episode, I'm sharing 5 genuinely simple ways to actually switch off your 9-5, so you can switch on your 5-9 - no apps, no retreats, no Sunday-night candle ritual required. I also go on a bit of a tangent (as I do) and share a story from my book about a room full of travel agents who cried when I asked them one simple question. 🎧 If this episode made you think, laugh, or question something - send it to someone who needs a little permission to do life differently. 📲 Screenshot, tag me @candiceharvey__ , and let me know what hit home. 132. Monday Deserves Better (And So Do You). It's Time To Give Monday The Rebrand It Deserves.

Send Candice a text! I used to be a full-blown Sunday Blues kind of girl. A mega Friyay countdowner - "only 4 more sleeps," "it's nearly Friday," you know the vibe. I'd start dreading Monday from about 10am on Sunday, like a little grey cloud following me around for the rest of my weekend. Wrecking it. For me, and everyone around me. Sorry, fam bam. Then in 2018, something clicked - and Monday's been my favourite day of the week ever since. I know how that sounds. Stick with me. In this episode, I'm calling out the story we've all been sold about Monday - the Mondayitis, the eye-rolls, the "living the dream" sarcasm - and giving it the rebrand it's been begging for. I'm also introducing something I'm mildly obsessed with and need your help spreading: MonYAY . You heard it here first! Fair warning, people will think you're a bit unhinged for loving a Monday. I've been getting that reaction since 2018. Doesn't bother me one bit. So, this episode? 20 reasons Monday deserves a lot more credit than it gets - written on my walk this morning, and honestly, more fun to write than I expected. Tune in, steal a few reasons for yourself, and then go post a #MonYAY on your socials and tag me - it'll genuinely make my week. 🎧 If this episode made you think, laugh, or question something - send it to someone who needs a little permission to do life differently. 📲 Screenshot, tag me @candiceharvey__ , and let me know what hit home. 131. How to Get Ahead When You Have Imposter Syndrome

Send Candice a text! I had a moment at an event recently that I almost didn't tell you about. A guy came up to me and said it was obvious I'd been doing what I do for a long time. I'm choosing to believe he meant the way I speak, and not the grey hairs. But here's the confession - even after years of doing this, putting in the work, getting genuinely good at my craft… I still don't fully believe I'm great at it. I compare myself to speakers I think are miles ahead of me. I get in my head. Sound familiar? Turns out, it's become a bit trendy to talk about imposter syndrome as a good thing lately - proof you're growing, evidence you're stretching. And honestly? I don't disagree with that, not entirely. But here's where I think the conversation stops short. Because while everyone's busy normalising the feeling, imposter syndrome is quietly costing people real opportunities - the promotion they didn't put their hand up for, the idea they didn't share in the meeting, the role they didn't apply for because they didn't tick every box. So, in this episode, I'm not debating whether imposter syndrome is good or bad. I'm giving you 3 things to actually do about it - so it stops running your career, and you get ahead anyway. Fair warning: one of these involves borrowing something from someone else. You'll understand when you hear it (talk about dangling a carrot ha!) Enjoy the episode! 🎧 If this episode made you think, laugh, or question something - send it to someone who needs a little permission to do life differently. 📲 Screenshot, tag me @candiceharvey__ , and let me know what hit home. 130. 5 Things I Say in Team Workshops That Your Boss Never Would

Send Candice a text! A few years into running my own team workshops, I started noticing something... After almost every session - without fail - a manager would come find me afterwards and say some version of the same thing: "I've been trying to say that to my team for two years, Candice. How did you just do that in twenty minutes?" Here's the thing though. It's not that I'm smarter than them, or braver, or better with words. It's that I'm not their boss. When your manager tells you your attitude needs work, it feels like a threat. When I say it in a room full of people who don't report to me, it feels like a nudge. Same words. Completely different impact. So in this episode, I'm sharing the top 5 things I say in my team workshops that your boss is almost certainly thinking - but will probably never say out loud. No hierarchy. No HR file. No awkward follow-up meeting. Just the truth, delivered by someone with absolutely nothing to lose by saying it straight. Fair warning: at least one of these is going to land directly in your chest. That's not an accident. That's the one that's yours. Tune in, get a little called out, and - as always - go shake things up. 🎧 If this episode made you think, laugh, or question something - send it to someone who needs a little permission to do life differently. 📲 Screenshot, tag me @candiceharvey__ , and let me know what hit home. 129. You Asked. I Answered (And Nothing Was Off Limits.)

Send Candice a text! You asked... so here we are. A few weeks ago, I put a question box on Instagram and told you that nothing was off limits. Business. Life. My career. My family. The kitchen dancing. The books. The workshops. And, as it turns out... you took that instruction very seriously. So in this episode, I'm answering your questions -the fun ones, the personal ones, the behind-the-scenes ones, and a few that made me stop and think before answering. I chat about the biggest shake up of my life, the most challenging season of my career, what I don't share on social media (and why), whether I miss my old team, my favourite workshop to deliver, when book number two is coming... and yes, we even address the very important question about why there haven't been enough kitchen dancing videos lately. It's a little more personal than my usual episodes, a little less polished, and feels like we're just sitting down having a chat over a decaf flat white on oat. And if your question made it into this episode - thank you. I loved putting this together. Now press play... you might learn something about Candice Harvey you didn't expect. 🎧 If this episode made you think, laugh, or question something - send it to someone who needs a little permission to do life differently. 📲 Screenshot, tag me @candiceharvey__ , and let me know what hit home. 128. Swearing at Work. Hot or Not?

Send Candice a text! A few weeks ago I made an announcement on social media that surprised a lot of people. I was giving up swearing. Not forever. Just for July. While everyone else was doing Dry July (which, considering I haven't had a drink since 2023, wasn't exactly an option that excited me), I decided to see what would happen if I stopped dropping the occasional colourful word instead. The response from people? "Good luck with THAT." "No chance I could do that." And my personal favourite... "No effing way is that possible." The irony wasn't lost on me. But here's the thing... This wasn't really about swearing. It started because I noticed something in myself that I hadn't paid much attention to before. A habit that had quietly become more automatic than intentional. Then, in the very same month, I received two pieces of feedback after a workshop that completely contradicted each other. One person loved my well-timed swear words. Another thought they were completely unprofessional. Same room. Same workshop. Same words. It got me thinking... Is swearing at work acceptable... or unprofessional? Does it make you more relatable... or less credible? And are the rules actually the same for everyone? In this episode of The Shake Up Podcast, I'm sharing what happened when I went swear-free for a month, the unexpected things I noticed about myself, and why this conversation turned out to be far more interesting than I ever expected. Whether you swear like it's a second language, save it for home, or haven't uttered a single swear word since 1998... this one's guaranteed to get you thinking. I'd love to know where you land. Swearing at work... hot or not? 🎧 If this episode made you think, laugh, or question something - send it to someone who needs a little permission to do life differently. 📲 Screenshot, tag me @candiceharvey__ , and let me know what hit home. 127. You’re Not Burnt Out - You’re Bored

Send Candice a text! Everyone seems to be burnt out right now. And here's the thing - some people genuinely are. Burnout is real, it's serious, and if that's you I am not here to minimise it for a second. But some of the people telling me they're burnt out? They're actually bored. And those are two very different things with two very different solutions. Getting clear on which one you're actually dealing with - that's what this episode is about. This time of year is prime boredom territory. The new year energy is long gone. You're not quite at the finish line yet. And that flat, restless, going-through-the-motions feeling has crept in for a lot of people. In this episode I'm breaking down what burnout actually looks like, what boredom actually looks like, and exactly what to do if you suspect it might be boredom that's been the problem all along. Before you quit your job. Before you call it burnout. Have a listen to this one first. 🎧 If this episode made you think, laugh, or question something - send it to someone who needs a little permission to do life differently. 📲 Screenshot, tag me @candiceharvey__ , and let me know what hit home. 126. My Top 5 Takeaways from Start With Yourself by Emma Grede + What My First Book Club Taught Me

Send Candice a text! Disclaimer: this is NOT a best bits of the book recap. This is MY top 5 takeaways. Which means you're getting the things that made me nod furiously AND the things that made me raise an eyebrow. Because that's what happened at book club and it made for a much better conversation. Emma Grede is incredible. I also don't agree with everything she says. Both things are true. Here's what we're covering in the episode: 💰 Why women need to talk about money more - and why I charged $140 a session for my first coaching client because nobody told me 🚫 Setting boundaries without being a d!ck about it - and the school parents chat story that made me go hmm ⚖️ Creating YOUR version of balance - this one got spicy at book club 🏢 Do you actually have to work in the office to be successful? Emma thinks absolbloodylutely. 🙋‍♀️ Backing yourself before you feel ready - the one every single person listening needs to hear Whether you've read the book and want a one sided book club moment - or you haven't read it and want to know if it's worth your time - either way you're in the right place. 🎧 If this episode made you think, laugh, or question something - send it to someone who needs a little permission to do life differently. 📲 Screenshot, tag me @candiceharvey__ , and let me know what hit home. 125. The Cost of a Bigger Life with Lachlan Stuart

Send Candice a text! So here's what happened... I was mid-session at a Ray White strategy day - talking about how to achieve any goal you set for yourself - when I spotted someone walk into the back of the room. And I completely lost my train of thought. Because I knew exactly who it was. Lachlan Stuart . Endurance athlete. High performance coach. Man who ran 58 marathons in 58 days across all 50 US states and 8 Australian territories. And husband of the beautiful Amy Sheppard. And my immediate thought was - what is HE doing here. Turns out he was speaking after me. Cool cool cool. I jumped on my Instagram stories after my session and mentioned that I'd spotted him and had a minor internal meltdown. He saw the story. And then messaged me to say he felt the exact same way watching me speak. Two speakers. Same room. Both thinking how do I follow THAT person. And now he's on The Shake Up Podcast. So. In this episode Lachlan and I get into the real stuff - what it actually costs to build a bigger life, which part of your life quietly collapses first when you're just ticking along, and why most people are surviving well but living far too small . This one is going to sit with you. I promise. Send Candice a text! We are officially, undeniably, no-getting-around-it at the halfway point of 2026. And before we go any further, I want to ask you one question. How was the first half? Not the Instagram version. Not the "yeah good, really busy" version you give people when they ask. The real one. The honest one. The one you say to yourself at 6am when nobody's listening. Because here's the thing - you already know the answer. Somewhere in that gut of yours, you already know exactly what the first half looked, felt and sounded like. So today we're not going backwards. This episode is about what happens next. I'm asking you six questions. Real ones. The kind that might make you a little uncomfortable. I'm also answering every single one myself - live, no script, no filter - because if I'm going to ask you to get honest, I should probably go first. 👉🏼And make sure you download my FREE 90 Day Guide to help you turn your insight into action!
