The Navy Grounded Him for 2 Years and Took $50,000 Back W/ Hans Toohey

Oto sits down with Hans Toohey — former Navy helicopter pilot, Harvard Kennedy School grad, and co-founder of Remnant Finance — for a conversation that starts with a broken contract and ends somewhere very few finance conversations go. Hans was twelve years into a career he'd planned his whole adult life around when he refused the mandate, filed a religious accommodation request, and got benched from the cockpit for two years while the Navy sat on his appeal. What he did with those two years is why this episode exists. He'd studied contract law as an elective at Harvard, so when the Navy tried to rewrite his contract retroactively, recoup a bonus they'd already paid, and claw back years of flight pay, he recognized exactly what he was looking at.
