Ep 62. The Hidden Truth Behind Lateral Pelvic Tilts (Hip Hike)

Most people think a hip hike is a muscle problem — something to stretch, release, or strengthen away. In this episode, Alex breaks down why that's backwards. A hip hike isn't the cause of dysfunction, it's the result of it: a compensation for where your base of support, pelvis, and spine are positioned in space. Alex walks through the full mechanical chain, from foot pronation to femoral rotation to rib cage position, and lays out the sequence for actually resolving it. What You'll Learn Why muscle tightness at the hip is a reaction , not a root cause How a shifting base of support drives the pelvis (and eventually the whole spine) to rotate The specific chain reaction behind a right hip hike: base of support shift → pelvic rotation → spinal rotation → compensatory hike Why the "down" hip matters just as much as the "hiked" hip — and what's happening at that low, posterior side The role of hip flexion and internal rotation (or the lack of it) in triggering the hike A practical restoration sequence: restore hip flexion/IR → decompress the posterior pelvis → drive hip extension while keeping the pelvis open → let the opposite side accept force and pronate EVOLVE Biomechanics Mentorship: https://www.resilientedu.com/evolve-2 Roadmap to Exercise Selection Course: https://www.resilientedu.com/resilient-roadmap

Ep. 61 You Shouldn't Tuck Your Ribs or Hips: Client Case Study

Two of the most common cues you'll see online: "tuck your ribs" and "tuck your pelvis", feel like they're fixing posture, but they're usually just shuffling the whole structure around and creating new compensations. In this episode, Alex Effer breaks down why cueing the rib cage and pelvis directly tends to backfire, and shares a simple framework for getting the same positions through your hands, arms, feet, and legs instead. If you've ever told a client to "tuck under" and watched them collapse, this one's for you What You'll Learn Why "tuck your ribs" and "tuck your pelvis" rarely produce the position you're after How tucking the pelvis quietly turns into a butt wink and a rounded lower back How tucking the ribs cascades into a forward head and rounded shoulders The distal-to-proximal principle: using the hands and feet to reposition the rib cage and pelvis Better cues and exercise swaps for the push-up position and for anterior pelvic tilt When the real fix isn't a cue at all — it's choosing a more appropriate exercise EVOLVE Biomechanics Mentorship: https://www.resilientedu.com/evolve Roadmap to Exercise Selection: https://www.resilientedu.com/resilient-roadmap

Episode 60: The Real Reason People Have A High Arch

Do you have a high arch that never seems to improve, no matter how many foot drills, pronation exercises, or mobility routines you try? In this video, Alex Effer breaks down why a rigid high arch is often a symptom of what's happening elsewhere in the body, not just the foot itself. You'll learn how the ribcage, pelvis, hips, and overall body position influence foot mechanics, why the toes and heel create the shape of the arch, and why simply trying to flatten the foot often misses the bigger picture. Topics covered: • High arches (pes cavus) • Foot pronation • Toe gripping • Pelvic and ribcage positioning • Internal rotation • Movement compensations • Exercise selection • Restoring foot mechanics EVOLVE Biomechanics Mentorship: https://www.resilientedu.com/evolve Roadmap to Exercise Selection: https://www.resilientedu.com/resilient-roadmap
